\nsmall white cheeks upon pillows, bright eyes blinking the black.<\/p>\n

Tearless lovelies are mine, who know only sugarplums and ponies;
\nthey beg night after night for the loss, the pain, their lives lack.
\nHenbane, I hum, the dark word a lump in my throat, hellebore,
\nuntil in the dark castle bedroom, behind stitched-shut eyelids,
\nthe plants leaf and bloom in their old secret rows.
\nNightshade, larkspur, I remember, rapunzel, oh rapunzel \u2013
\nNight after night, I sing my name,
\nmy heart a knot of grief and blood.<\/p>\n
